The Wilderness First Aid course helps prepare for the unexpected. This fast paced, hands-on training is designed to meet the needs of trip leaders, camp staff, outdoor enthusiasts and individuals working in remote locations. It introduces you to caring for people who become ill or injured far from definitive medical care. Classroom lectures and demonstrations are combined with realistic scenarios where mock patients challenge you to integrate your learning. At the end of the course, you’ll have the knowledge, skills, and ability to make sound decisions in emergency situations. Participants could include hikers, backpackers, ski patrol, kayakers, canoeists, fisherman, adventure racers, scout leaders and older scouts, search & rescue, boaters, farm workers, utility workers in remote areas, forest rangers, law enforcement, and disaster response team members. Successful completion of class includes a 3 year Wilderness First Aid certificate.
This course also meets the requirements for organizations that require/recommend training in backcountry emergency response for almost any location. This course is approved by the American Camping Association, Boy Scouts*; Girl Scouts* of America, various youth groups, and youth camps and strongly recommended for anyone that may find themselves in delayed help situations.
Prerequisites: No previous first aid training is required. Current adult CPR/AED certification is recommended. Ideally for 14+ years of age to attend this course.
* Participants going to Philmont or another high-adventure Scout location, may be required to have an additional WFA card that is accepted by those locations. There is an additional fee for this.
Please note: Class is non-refundable. The class will require some physical activity. You are encouraged to check with your healthcare professional before participating if you have any concerns. If there are questions please contact Safety Training Pros (844) 900-SAFE (7233) to discuss before enrolling.
