Become a Certified American Red Cross Shallow Water Lifeguard
Earn your American Red Cross Shallow Water Lifeguard Certification (up to 5 feet) in just three days! This Folsom-based certification course provides hands-on training in lifeguard skills, water rescue techniques, CPR/AED, and First Aid. Attendance on all three days is required to complete the program.

Course Highlights:

• Online Pre-Training: Complete the required online learning program. View System Requirements before starting.
• Participant Manual: Read the American Red Cross Lifeguard Participant Manual (ebook provided after registration).
• In-Person Skills: Practice water rescues, CPR/AED, and First Aid under instructor supervision.
• Certification: Receive your Shallow Water Lifeguard Certification (up to 5 feet), including CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid, valid for 2 years.

Who Can Attend:

• Must be at least 15 years old.
• Must pass swimming prerequisites:

Swim-Tread-Swim Sequence
Jump in, submerge, resurface, and swim 50 yards using front crawl, breaststroke, or both (goggles allowed). Tread water for 2 minutes using only legs, then swim another 50 yards.

Timed Event
Within 50 seconds, swim 20 yards (no goggles), dive to retrieve a 10-pound object from 4–7 feet deep, and return it to the surface. Swim 20 yards on your back holding the object, keeping your face near the surface, and exit the water without using steps or a ladder.

Required Equipment:

• Adult & Pediatric Resuscitation Mask (available for purchase for $20 if needed; cash, check, or Venmo accepted).

How to Successfully Complete:

1. Finish the online training before attending in-person sessions.
2. Participate in all activities, including skills practice and scenarios.
3. Demonstrate proficiency in all skills and pass the final written exam (80%+).
4. Pass all three final skill assessments.
